Who is JANA?

Investment philosophy

JANA’s investment philosophy drives our capital markets and manager research, the way we construct portfolios, the investment decisions we make and the advice we give our clients.

The key elements of that philosophy:

  • In most asset classes, there are occasions when markets diverge significantly from fair value.
  • By recognising these occasions and positioning portfolios and manager configurations accordingly, it is possible to reduce risk and outperform over the long term.
  • Intense qualitative research, conducted by experienced professionals and supplemented by quantitative analysis, provides a holistic view of a manager.
  • Through diligent hands-on research, it is possible to select managers capable of outperforming over the long term.
  • While an above-average ability in security selection is a prerequisite in most asset classes, investment managers must also exhibit a disciplined process and style and this should be reflected in the qualities and mindset of its personnel.
  • To be of real value, research needs to be implemented with full understanding of client’s needs. At JANA we back our judgment by introducing new ideas and managers to our clients’ portfolios.
